As a liaison between the Government of Belize and the Bertarelli Foundation, Blue Marine Foundation played a key role in facilitating the declaration of the Turneffe Atoll Marine Reserve. Their efforts were enhanced through the expertise and assistance of Fauna & Flora International.
Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) is a UK registered charity set up in 2010 by the team behind the award winning documentary ‘The End of the Line’. BLUE exists to fix the largest solvable problem on the planet - the emptying oceans. It was instrumental in the protection of the Chagos archipelago, one of the largest marine protected areas in the world, and is involved in stakeholder-run marine protected areas from the Cyclades in Greece to England's Lyme Bay. BLUE’s mission is the active and effective protection of 10% of the world’s oceans by 2020, delivered through a network of marine reserve partnerships and private-sector led solutions in the sea.
